Free Hide Message in Image Tool

Hide a secret message inside a PNG or JPG so the picture looks unchanged. This tool writes the text into the least significant bits of each pixel in your browser, then downloads a PNG. Upload that PNG in Reveal message to read the note back. Nothing is uploaded.

Upload a PNG or JPG, type a private note, and download a PNG that still looks like the original photo. The message is stored in tiny color changes no one can see. Someone with this page can reveal it; anyone else just sees the picture. Processing uses the Canvas API on your device — the image and the message never leave the browser. Send the downloaded PNG as a file. Saving it as JPG, or letting a chat app compress the photo, erases the hidden note.

Uses the HTML5 Canvas API (getImageData and putImageData) to set the least significant bit of each pixel's red, green, and blue values. A short header and an end marker frame the message so a normal photo can be rejected. The download is always PNG because JPG compression would destroy those bits. Everything runs in the browser.

How to Use Hide Message in Image

  2. Click Hide message and download the PNG — it looks like the original picture
  3. Share that PNG as a file so the pixels are not recompressed
  4. To read it, choose Reveal message, upload the same PNG, and copy the text

Sending a surprise plan through a group chat where the person being surprised might scroll past? A normal-looking photo carries the note, and the chat shows a picture rather than a block of scrambled text.

Handing someone a private line — a door code, a meeting spot — inside a photo they already expect to receive, without installing an app or creating an account.

Why is the download a PNG even if I uploaded a JPG?
JPG compression rewrites pixel colors and destroys the hidden bits. The tool always saves a PNG so the message survives the download.
Can I send the image on WhatsApp?
Only if you send the PNG as a document/file. Sending it as a photo lets WhatsApp recompress the image, which removes the hidden message. Email attachments that keep the original file work.
What if Reveal says no hidden message was detected?
The image was not created by this tool, or it was re-saved as JPG or compressed by a chat app. Reveal only works on the original PNG download.
Will the picture look different?
No. Each color channel changes by at most 1 out of 256, which is invisible. The downloaded PNG should look identical to the photo you uploaded.
